WATCH: Boston Red Sox Manager Cuts off Player’s Mocking Celebration Against Houston Astros

In the first of three ALCS games to take place at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox recorded an emphatic 12-3 victory over the Houston Astros yesterday. The former put on a stellar hitting display to take a crucial 2-1 lead in the series, which also gave a major boost to their confidence for the coming games.

While the Red Sox’s hitters stole the show, their star pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez also played a big part in their victory. However, he had a moment with the team’s manager Alex Cora before leaving the pitcher’s mound, which caught the eye of many.

Rodríguez made a stunning effort as a starting pitcher for the Red Sox yesterday. Although he conceded a three-run home run, those were the Astros’ only runs in Game 3. In addition, he recorded seven strikeouts in the game which displayed just how good he was.

After pitching six out of nine innings, Cora called the Venezuelan off the pitch. During his walk to the dugout, Rodríguez emulated Astros shortstop Carlos Correa’s gesture of pointing to his arm. In Game 1 last week, Correa made this gesture after smashing a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. That home run gave the AL West champions a 4-3 lead, which they ultimately won 5-4.

However, Cora immediately waived off Rodriguez, yelling at him not to carry out the gesture. Fans could see him yelling, “Hey! No! No!” at the 28-year-old before embracing him when he reached the dugout.

And this was after Alex Cora yelled “Hey! No! No!” at Eduardo Rodriguez for pointing to his wrist after retiring Carlos Correa (which was mimicking a Correa celebration from earlier in the series).

Rodríguez admitted he felt bad after the game

Although he basked in the moment with his celebration, the Venezuelan revealed he felt bad for doing it during a post-game interview. He said, “Sometimes some things get in your mind and you just do things like that. But right now I feel bad because I did it.”

With Game 4 coming up in just a few hours, Cora looks likely to start Nick Pivetta in Fenway Park. Should the Red Sox take a victory, they will take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series, putting them on the verge of ousting the AL West champions in Boston itself.

Their recent form, especially at bats, suggests this possibility could become a reality. However, the Astros will look to tie the series in today’s game, which makes them more dangerous.
