WWE Legend Recalls Vince McMahon Legitimately Fought for Him

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is a wrestling genius. For over four decades, he has been taking decisions for WWE. With time, thanks to his ideas and decisions, he turned the WWE into one of the biggest wrestling promotions on the face of the earth.

He has come up with brilliant and bizarre storylines and gimmicks that have raised some eyebrows all around. One such character was played by Charles Wright, aka The Godfather: A pimp who brings his ladies during his fights and segments.

The 60-year-old wrestler faced his own share of problems when he and the WWE started getting complaints regarding his gimmick and its impact on the audience while portraying the role of The Godfather.

Vince McMahon was adamant about not giving up on the gimmick of The Godfather

Speaking on It’s My Wrestling Podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Charles Wright talked about the time when the WWE Chairman stood for The Godfather and tried to protect his gimmick in WWE.

“If it was up to Vince, I would still be out there doing my thing. He used to just walk down the hall saying, ‘Pimping ain’t easy.’ Vince fought for me forever, but at that point they [WWE] became public, he was answering to a lot of people, they were transitioning to the PG era,” Godfather said. [h/t: Sportskeeda]

Wright’s pimp character drew complaints from the PTC (Parents Television Council) in 2000, citing the terrible impact on the younger audience.

However, things worked out when Mr. McMahon tweaked Wright’s gimmick from the Godfather to Goodfather and put him in a new stable called the ‘Right to Censor’.

WWE then inducted the former Intercontinental Champion to the WWE Hall of Fame of class 2016, where the WWE Universe witnessed Charles Wright in his iconic Godfather character.
