Emma Raducanu to Partner With Johanna Konta’s Former Coach Following Indian Wells Early Exit

The British sensation, Emma Raducanu, lifted her maiden Grand Slam title at the Flushing Meadows. After a scintillating show at US Open 2021, she couldn’t repeat the wonders at Indian Wells. Aliaksandra Sasnovich eliminated Raducanu in straight sets in the second round of the competition. 

During her US Open journey, Raducanu was coached by Andrew Richardson. Following the competition, she parted ways with Richardson and worked with former British No 1, Jeremy Bates, temporarily. Recent reports suggest that she’ll now collaborate with Johanna Konta’s former coach, Esteban Carril.

Emma Raducanu to partner with Esteban Carril

Raducanu has been struggling to find the right fit in her backroom staff for a while now. The 18-year-old has already changed coaches twice since she shot to fame at the Wimbledon Championships. In London, she was working with Nigel Sears and for her run in the US; she teamed up with Andrew Richardson.

Her partnership with Richardson ended because Raducanu was looking for someone with ‘tour-level experience’. And according to recent reports, Esteban Carril is set to take over the responsibility on a trial basis. Carril is the former coach of Johanna Konta, who helped her ascend from outside 100 to the top 10 in the world.

Who has Esteban Carril coached before

Carril had been with Johanna Konta for two and a half years, joining her squad in 2014 after she fell out of the top 100. Konta ascended the rankings, went on a 15 match winning streak in 2015, and reached the world’s top 10 in 2016. At the end of the 2016 season, she was named the WTA Tour’s most improved player.
