“I Was Being Picked on All the Time”- Joe Rogan Says He Chose to Learn MMA Because of the Way He Was Treated
Joe Rogan has been a mainstay in the UFC for the better part of two decades now. Rogan initially started his role with the promotion as a backstage reporter. He then slowly transitioned to a play-by-play commentator and has since cemented his place as a play-by-play commentator for almost all of the promotions’ PPV cards.
Rogan is a die-hard combat sports fanatic. He is also a martial arts practitioner and is a black belt under Eddie Bravo. Rogan has often spoken about his love for the sport of Jiu-Jitsu and how he got into the sport to protect himself from bullies as a child.
The podcast host recently shared his thoughts on martial arts and how it has helped him. He said, “I went from being a kid who was terrified of conflict to being a martial arts champion. The reason why I became a martial arts champion is I was being picked on all the time. I was like, I do not like this. So I am going to become what I am terrified of.”
Rogan continued, “Martial arts develops your human potential, when you get through something really, really difficult. There is nothing more difficult, outside of war, than agreeing to step into a closed area with another guy who’s a fucking trained killer.”
Will we see Joe Rogan back at the booth for UFC 267?
Joe Rogan is synonymous with UFC PPV events. The stand-up comedian is more often than not present covering the event. However, Rogan has not been a part of the last two PPV events. He missed UFC 265, headlined by Gane and Lewis as the dates for the event clashed with his comedy tour.
More recently, Rogan missed UFC 266 headlined by Volkanovski and Ortega as the dates clashed with a hunting trip he had planned. The upcoming PPV event between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira will take place on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi and Rogan will most likely not be present for the same as he has never covered any of the events that have taken place on Fight Island. Therefore, fans will have to wait till UFC 268 to catch Joe Rogan back at the commentary booth.
