Jim Davidson has hit out at Ashley Banjo for making him look like ‘bad guy’ after storming out during a discussion on race, after previously criticising Diversity’s BLM routine.

The comedian ‘did a Piers Morgan’ after refusing to talk to the dancer and presenter during  ITV documentary Ashley Banjo: Britain in Black and White, which aired on Tuesday night.

The pair were discussing Britain’s Got Talent winners and their performance of an emotive dance on the ITV series which was inspired by the death of George Floyd in the US.

Despite many messages of support, the dance troupe were met with a huge wave of Ofcom complaints and the comedian among those taking aim at the group in an explicit rant.

Davidson previously called the group’s routine ‘ridiculous’ and ‘indulgent’ in a vile YouTube video, titled ‘Who needs Diversity?’.

Now, the comedian has spoken about the interview and criticised Ashley for his line of questioning.

Speaking during a Ustreme video with presenter Miles Crawford about the interview, the 67-year-old said: ‘I quickly realised that the narrative had already been done and the story had been told.

‘I was there to fill in the gaps and they were going to make me the bad guy. So what I did, apart from leaving after 30 minutes, was I said “You’ve made your mind up, I’m off”. [I] took my mic off and did a Piers Morgan. I stormed out, instead of going out the front door, I went in the toilet.’

The presenter then revealed that he recorded the footage from the interview without Ashley’s knowledge.

‘I had to run back and get my phone because I discreetly left my telephone recording… we’ve got a transcript now.’

He added: ‘During the interview, [Ashley] was very, very passionate about things. But the disturbing thing was, I told him I thought that [the Britain’s Got Talent dance] was quite amazing. It achieved what you want to set out, I would imagine. [I asked him] what did you want to achieve with that? Notoriety? Fame? They’ve certainly got both.

‘I divided the audience’s opinion. But I said “You’ve captured the hearts of people, and you’ve angered people.”

He went on to say: ‘Did it make us aware of diversity in the country? Or did it divide? You certainly divided opinion.’

Wednesday’s show saw Davidson explaining what his issue with the dance was, saying that it was ‘on a light entertainment show on a Saturday night’.

When topic of race in general was raised, he abruptly decided to leave the conversation, with Ashley attempting to continue the interview.

Ashley Banjo: Britain in Black and White is available to stream on ITV Hub now.
