‘On My Radar’: Steph Curry Accepts That He Has the All-Time Three-Point Record on His Mind

Last year, Steph Curry proved that he is a one-man army, to say the least. The man carried a short-handed Warriors team to the play-in tournament and almost qualified. All that, with a tail-bone injury and certainly not at his 100% fit self. 

A regular in the MVP conversation, the Baby Faced Assassin is beginning his 2021-22 season with more responsibilities on his shoulders. However, the comfort of approaching the all-time NBA three-pointers record must surely work as a soothing factor. So is he really aware about the timeline when he will come on the top?

Steph Curry confessed that he’s awaiting that night

In a recent interview, Steph Curry laughed on the fact that Klay Thompson believes Curry can average 10 three-pointers a night. Then, he expressed how he feels about sitting in the Top 2 and closing in towards the ultimate crown.

The 33-YO detailed, “I know the time frame based on three or for threes a game, what that’ll look like. But the way I have gotten here is just staying in the moment. Even passing Reggie [Miller] last year was kind of a surreal moment because it’s been on my radar since I got into the league…”

Well, last season, the 3x Champion scored 337 three-pointers in just 63 games, averaging a career-high in every way. This was even better than his glorious 2015-16 season when he averaged 45.4 3P% in 79 games.

When can the Warriors phenom break the all-time record?

Currently, Steph Curry is just 142 three-pointers away from breaking Ray Allen’s total of 2973. So even in a modest calculation, assuming Curry scored four three-pointers per game, he will reach the milestone in 36 games. 

It will surely be a memorable night for the fans (hopefully in Chase Center) when that happens. As Curry added, I’ve looked up to those guys my entire childhood, played against Ray for a little bit. So I can’t wait for that night… to happen. It’s going to be emotional for sure because us three, we’re the only ones who know what it’s like to shoot at that level.”

Plus, further considering that he might miss a few games before completing those thirty-six, he can still walk up the ladder before the ASG 2022. And given he will again be a favorite to win the three-point contest, it will only be an icing on the cake if he gets to the record before that happens.

As a career average, the man has dropped 3.7 threes/game, but that average has been well above four in the last nine years. So unless something extraterrestrial gets to stop him, he will be a crowned king until February 2022.
