The creator of Sex and the City has addressed the feud between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker ahead of the arrival of And Just Like That…
The actress will not be joining former co-stars Sarah, Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon on the upcoming HBO show.
Candace Bushnell, who wrote the Sex and the City books the TV show is based on, has now spoken about the friction between the pair and given a possible explanation behind Kim’s absence.
Bushnell told The New York Post that Cattrall just doesn’t want to play that character anymore.
‘I absolutely love Kim. But it seems she wants to do other things, and she doesn’t feel like doing the show. Maybe she doesn’t want to be that character anymore. Maybe she doesn’t want to put the Spanx on!’
Kim, who will not reprise her role in the upcoming Sex And The City revival programme, has been very vocal on social media about her feud with Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw.
Kim explained why she would not be returning to the show saying in 2019: ‘It’s a “no” from me. You learn lessons in life and my lesson is to do work with good people and try and make it fun.’

Meanwhile, Sarah has denied there was ever tension between the two, saying she had ‘never uttered an unkind, unsupportive, unfriendly word’.
She also discussed the differences between Sarah and her character Carrie Bradshaw, saying: ‘In real life, those women are not those characters – they are the opposite. Sarah Jessica Parker, she’s been married forever to the same guy. She’s got kids. I don’t know her very well, but she seems to be very family-oriented.’
Discussing And Just Like That…, the author suggested the reason the revival was happening was financial.

‘HBO’s going to make money on it. They’re going to exploit it as much as they can. They rebooted Gossip Girl. If they didn’t reboot Sex in the City, it would be really strange,’ she said.
‘Of course I’m going to watch it. I hope it runs for six seasons. I get paid a little bit of money.’

Explaining how Samantha’s absence will be addressed in the upcoming series, HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys said that the show is ‘not trying to re-do Sex and the City’ and added: ‘They’re not trying to say that these characters are reliving their 30s. It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s.’
‘Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. Friendships fade, and new friendships start.’
And Just Like That… will premiere this autumn in the US on HBO Max.
