Tom Ellis is wildly keen to reprise his Miranda character Gary Preston should the BBC comedy ever be rebooted.

The Lucifer actor played Miranda Hart’s love interest in the sitcom, which originally aired on BBC Two in 2009 and later moved to BBC One where it ran for three series and two specials.

The show made a brief comeback last January for a 10th anniversary special and Tom would absolutely love to step into the role again should the opportunity ever arise.

‘It was a huge thing in my career and it was a huge part of my life,’ Tom told Josh Smith on his podcast Reign with Josh Smith.

‘I look back at it so fondly at the time and I couldn’t say whether we’d ever do more of it, but if she [Miranda] ever asked me to do more, I’d be right there…’

He continued: ‘Listen, I think the BBC have strongly encouraged Miranda to come back and do some more!’

Surely it’s only a matter of time before she takes the Beeb up on their offer?

Tom made a surprise appearance in Miranda’s New Year Special alongside the likes of Sarah Hadland, Patricia Hodge, and Sally Phillips.

The episode, which was held at the London Palladium, featured a host of treats as Miranda looked back over a decade of fun, friendship, romance and all that made millions of fans connect with the sitcom.

Marking the actual 10-year anniversary of Miranda back in November 2019, Tom shared a throwback with Hart on Instagram and his 5.4 million followers wept.’10 years ago today the first episode of #Miranda aired on @bbctwo,’ he wrote. ‘It will always be a precious time in my career.’

He continued: ‘My affection for the people involved knows no bounds. Especially my dear friend and genius @realmirandahart #10yearsofsuchfun.’

Miranda is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
