Christmas garlands are one of the most versatile home accessories to add more textures, colours or festive foliage to your home.

From dressing tables to stairs and mirrors, a Christmas garland will deck your halls quickly and neatly and some of them are even suitable for all the seasons.

You can also choose from fun features such as built in LED lights and fake flowers, or you can even go as far as designing your own Christmas garland with a DIY kit.

How to place a garland on a Christmas tree

Depending on the length of your festive garland you can either wrap the garland around the tree, starting at the base and working your way up.

Alternatively you can fix your garland to the centre of your tree to add more volume to the middle branches and more textures of other greenery, baubles, berries and even felt characters or pompoms.

Use some twine to tie the garland to the tree and loop any handy hooks over the tree branches.

How to hang a Christmas garland

If you’re renting your home or simply don’t fancy nails sticking out of your home all year, then a sturdy temporary hook such as Command clear wire hooks will hold your garland up without damaging the walls.

You can always hide the hook at behind the garland to get that effortless finish too.

A simple way to attach a garland your staircase is to get some thick red ribbon and tie it around the staircase. That way you can add some bright red bows to your garland and secure it in place without any unnecessary hooks.

The other alternative is to weave it into the wooden banister and tie the ends around the base and top of the stairs with twine.
