Christian Horner Reveals Verstappen’s Disappointment in Hill’s Hamilton Comments

A few weeks ago at the Italian Grand Prix, one of the biggest talking points was Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton crash. It was the talk of the town for a long time, and many opinions were thrown around. Among them was Damon Hill, who was particularly scathing, but Red Bull team boss Christian Horner hit back at him.

He said, “Max was disappointed by those comments. Everybody has the right to an opinion but it’s disappointing because it absolutely wasn’t the case.

“I think Lewis knew the risk that he was taking. The stewards deemed him to be obviously more at fault. Unfortunately the outcome was quite skewed. We’ve written off a car, lost an engine, and he managed to go on and win the race, so there was essentially no penalty for being deemed to be at fault. But you move on. OK, it didn’t go our way that day but things tend to even themselves out over the course of the year.”

What did Damon Hill say that made Christian Horner react?

The 1996 F1 champion insinuated that Verstappen made a ‘calculated decision’ to take Hamilton out of the race. He even criticised the Red Bull driver for not checking on Hamilton after such a scary accident. To be honest, it was scary, as Verstappen’s Red Bull ended up almost on top of Hamilton’s car.

He said, “Now I don’t want to think that of any driver, but I think it was either an error of judgement or a calculated move to collide with Lewis. Which is strong, strong stuff, and I don’t like the idea that I’m accusing anyone of doing that, but he’s got a points advantage and this was a race which Mercedes was supposed to win.”

The two championship rivals ended up in that position because Verstappen tried to pass Hamilton into the chicane. Unfortunately, he misjudged his entry and ended up riding the kerbs. This resulted in his Red Bull flipping on top of the world champion’s car. What made it even scarier was the fact that the rear wheel was inches from Hamilton’s helmet.

Aside from the on-track Hamilton-Verstappen battle, the off-track battle has been entertaining. Christian Horner and Toto Wolff have been taking potshots at each other, as the championship battles intensify.
