Jose Mourinho insists he will NOT leave Roma for Newcastle after he is linked with shock manager job

JOSE MOURINHO has ruled himself out of the running for the Newcastle job as he wants to stay loyal to Roma.

Newcastle are on the search for a new manager following the sacking of Steve Bruce earlier this week.

But Mourinho has decided he does not want to move to St. James’ Park amid speculation linking him with the job.

He told Sky Sports: “Newcastle job? I’ve decided to stay, I’m not leaving.

“I signed for three years project with Roma and I’m not gonna leave my players.”

Mourinho has enjoyed a good start to the season in Serie A with his Roma side fourth in the table.

And although he did admit he has an emotional connection to Newcastle due to his relationship with Bobby Robson, it is not the right time for him to leave Roma.

The Magpies’ new owners will have to move on in their search as a result, with a host of names linked to the vacant position.

Another man who has managed Roma – Paulo Fonseca – is heavily linked to Newcastle.

The club have reportedly reopened talks with the Portuguese in an attempt to hire him as Bruce’s successor.

It is believed that Fonseca appeals to the Toon hierarchy because of his attacking style of play.

But there are other candidates for the role, such as Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard.

Whoever comes in could have a lot to spend in January to strengthen the squad – at least £50million will be made available to sign new players, with reserves of up to £150m.
