Kate Beckinsale has revealed her ‘very high IQ’ was more of a hindrance than a help when it came to her career as an actress.

The Underworld star, 48, appeared on The Howard Stern Show this week where she revealed she had been tested at an IQ of 152 when she was a child.

The DJ brought up that Kate studied at Oxford and speaks fluent Russian as he quizzed her on what is was like to be almost genius-level smart.

She told him: ‘I did. I’ll have to ask my mum [the exact number]. It was very high. I think she had me tested because very bright children are nearly unbearable.’

After ringing her mum live on air, Kate added: ‘They tested me when I was young, so I mean I’m sure I’ve burned a few brain cells by now.’

While her high IQ could have opened doors to pretty much any career she wanted to turn her hand to, Kate believes it was actually detrimental to her career in Hollywood.

Kate explained: ‘It’s no good to me, though. It’s really not helpful to me in my career. I just think it might have been a handicap actually.’

She added that doctors had told her she would also have been happier if she was less smart, joking: ‘Every single doctor, every single person I’ve ever come across has said, “You’d be so much happier if you were 30 percent less smart.”’

Howard joked that Kate must find dating hard as she must think all men are ‘idiots’, to which she quipped: ‘Don’t you think most women say that?’

She added: ‘I’ve found I can forgive an awful lot if someone is funny. There’s a certain intelligence in someone being funny that I’m able to mess with.’
