Police are investigating how a NSFW clip was able to be broadcast on a regional news station in the US during an evening weather segment.

KREM 2 in Spokane, Washington, fell victim to the blunder as it aired its 6.30pm bulletin earlier this week, helmed by meteorologist Michelle Boss. Instead of seasonal footage, however, viewers were greeted by a 13-second porn video.

As Boss informed viewers that ‘some bonus days of nice weather after a gorgeous weekend of mild temperatures’ were in store, a woman’s rear appeared in a clip over her shoulder.

The footage, which showed a camera scanning down the woman’s body, remained on-screen as Boss remained seemingly oblivious to the mayhem.

Anchor Cody Proctor also didn’t react to the clip, as producers acted swiftly and zoomed in on the temperature maps.

Following the broadcast, Spokane Police said they received numerous calls from concerned viewers alerting them to the footage and were looking into the incident.

The Special Victims Unit (SVU) and Technical Assistance Response Unit (TARU) were hot on the chase to track down those behind the ‘disturbing’ clip’s airing.

In a statement issued earlier this week, police said: ‘The Spokane Police Department Special Victims Unit responded to a local news outlet Sunday evening after a disturbing image/video appeared on the screens of viewers during the station’s weather report.

‘Around 6.30pm on Sunday SPD began to receive calls regarding what was described as a pornographic or explicit image appearing during a television weather forecast.

‘It was a short video segment, generally described as a small portion of the screen, showing a separate image from the newscast of what appeared to be a possibly pornographic or explicit image. Estimates were the image/video lasted about 10 seconds.’

It’s still not clear how the clip came to air, or who was responsible, however the statement added ‘the station’s personnel are cooperating fully with SPD in the attempt to determine what happened’.

It noted: ‘No culpability of any kind has been determined.’

According to TVSpy, the network apologised to viewers hours later during the 11pm newscast, with an anchor saying: ‘An inappropriate video aired in the first part of the show. We are diligently working to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.’

Stations that air inappropriate footage pre-Watershed face tough fines from the Federal Communications Agency in the US, with WDBJ in Virginia slapped with a $325,000 (£235k) fine in 2012 after it allegedly aired a ‘sexually explicit clip of an adult film website’ during the 6pm news report.
