Strictly Come Dancing’s Tilly Ramsay praised by All On The Board for standing up against Steve Allen’s ‘disgusting’ bodyshaming comments

Strictly Come Dancing’s Tilly Ramsay has been commended by All On The Board for standing up for herself after LBC’s Steve Allen bodyshamed her on his radio show.

The account, which shares the inspiring messages that are written on London Underground information boards, created a special version just Tilly after Steve branded her ‘a chubby little thing’ as he criticised her performance on the BBC competition show.

‘Dear Tilly Ramsay, Hope you’re doing alright?’ the latest board read. ‘We thought we would write you this letter.

‘Well done for standing up for yourself against disgraceful behaviour and disgusting comments from people who should know better.

‘You are spectacular on Strictly, keep dancing and doing what you do. Today we are changing Piccadilly Circus to Piccatilly Circus to pay tribute to you. Love All On The Board.’

Tilly, who is the daughter of TV chef Gordon Ramsay, shared her response to Steve’s comments in a statement.

She told fans she ‘won’t tolerate people that think it’s okay to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone’s weight and appearance’.

In the lengthy post, the 19-year-old TV presenter and social media personality said that while she usually tries ‘not to read and listen to comments and negativity’, ‘recently being called out on a national radio station by a 67-year-old man is a step too far’

Directing her statement at Steve, who called her a ‘chubby little thing’, she continued: ‘Steve please feel free [to] voice your opinions however I draw the line at commenting on my appearance.’

Tilly said that it was ‘such a shame that someone is trying to make such a positive experience negative’, adding that ‘this isn’t the first and definitely won’t be the last comment made about my appearance and I accept that and I’m learning to accept myself’.

The student emphasised that it’s important to remember how young she is and that regardless of whether someone is in the spotlight, there is no need to make derogatory remarks about their appearance.

‘But please remember that words can hurt and at the end of the day I am only 19 and I’m so grateful for all the amazing opportunities I have been able to take part in and I understand that being in the public eye obviously comes with its own repercussions and I’ve been aware of this from a young age,’ she said.

‘However, I won’t tolerate people that think it’s okay to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone’s weight and appearance. Love Tilly xx.’

Jason Manford and Dr Alex George are among the stars who have come to Tilly’s defence after she was put down on the radio by LBC’s Steve.

Love Island’s Dr Alex, who was appointed a youth mental health ambassador for the Government earlier this year, penned a letter to LBC regarding Steve’s behaviour and called for a discussion to make sure ‘such a situation never arises again.’
