“Doesn’t Really Matter”: Andy Murray Dissatisfied With His Results After European Open 2021 Loss

Former World No.1 Andy Murray has had some great performances in the past few months. However, he is still far away from building a winning streak on the ATP Tour. Accordingly, Murray explained how playing well is less relevant than winning after his second-round loss in ATP Antwerp 2021 against Diego Schwartzman. He lost another tight battle, 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Inarguably, the 34-year-old has come close to beating some of the top-ranked players on the men’s circuit. But the only thing between him and winning is the lack of control in the decisive moments. Consequently, Murray now aims to look forward to results only.

Indeed, tennis matches cannot be analyzed in black and white only; sometimes, it’s the grey area that decides the fate of the battle. That is one of the reasons why Andy Murray wants to focus on the results more than his performance.

“In the next couple of weeks, I look for results. Sport is results business; it doesn’t really matter playing well if you don’t win. Is better winning when you don’t play your best,” Murray explained.

Still, considering his low rankings, Murray has to go through a steep path in every other tournament. For instance, Murray faced second-seeded Diego Schwartzman in the second round itself. Hence, it is more challenging to find winning ways when facing top players in the early stages of an event.

Interestingly, the three-time Grand Slam champion realizes that and is looking forward to such paths ahead. “I had tough draws,” Murray added. “Vienna and Paris Bercy will be as well tough tournaments.”

Novak Djokovic to join Murray and others in Paris

What’s more, Serbian World No.1 Novak Djokovic will be marking his return after US Open heartbreak in Paris Masters. So, there is a possibility of Djokovic and Murray matchup soon.

Before that, the Scot will aim to go deeper into the tournaments, starting from ATP Vienna. Arguably, a few good wins might change his entire face of the comeback.

From a fan’s perspective, watching Murray enjoying tennis and competing at his best is a treat. Hopefully, he will continue improving and start getting those big wins against top-ranked players.

All in all, the next part of the season is going to be exciting for Andy Murray. Only time will tell if it will better his results or not.
