Simone Biles’ Absence Allows These Two Gymnasts to Shine at World Championships

The withdrawal of Simone Biles from major gymnastics tournaments continues. After her infamous exodus from the team artistic gymnastics events in Tokyo, Biles is yet to don the mat professionally. Moreover, she withdrew her participation from the World Championships in Japan and has further cast doubt on her future.

However, many young gymnasts are coming to the forefront. Without having to prove anything, the new generation of gymnasts is rising through the ranks to compete against the likes of Biles and other prominent competitors.

New superstars to replace Simone Biles

Notably, three new gymnasts, Leanne Wong, Angelina Melnikova, and Kayla DiCello, recently spoke in awe of Biles’ influence on their careers.

“We’ve learned so much from Simone, just watching her compete over all the years and all the experience she’s had. We’re finally getting to experience what she has in the past,” said Wong.

The US gymnastics team called up Wong for the competitions in Tokyo, but she was forced to go into quarantine for the rest of her stay as her roommate tested positive for Covid-19. Meanwhile, the 2019 junior world vault champion mentioned how she loved Biles and her entire persona.

“She’s so amazing, and she does so many cool things that a lot of people won’t try. I just think she’s awesome,” said DiCello.

It is incredible to see the admiration that Biles receives despite the ongoing controversies; such has been her dominance for the past several years.

Biles is the GOAT

The 2016 Rio Olympics saw Biles win four gold medals with an incredible performance. Likewise, heading to Tokyo, she was the outright favorite to win most of the events. However, things didn’t go as planned. Experiencing a case of twisties, she withdrew from majority of the games, citing mental health concerns.

Along with Biles, Suni Lee has also withdrawn from the championships because of her commitment to reality show ‘Dancing with the Stars’.

Thus, these new gymnasts will shine at the World Championships in Japan. With the experience from their peers like Biles and Lee, the world waits for a new champion to be crowned and join Simone Biles as one of the best.
