Colleagues of Steve Allen at LBC reportedly want to see him sacked after he bodyshamed Strictly Come Dancing star Tilly Ramsay on the radio, with a source criticising his ‘outdated and archaic comments’.

Earlier this week, 19-year-old Tilly released a statement on social media calling out Steve for calling her ‘chubby little thing’ on the radio, saying that she ‘won’t tolerate’ people who scrutinise the weight or appearances of others.

The social media personality and TV presenter has received an outpouring of support from fans, celebrities and Strictly stars, with LBC yet to release a comment in response.

Steve – who has made fatphobic comments in the past – has continued to host his early morning show, failing to mention his previous comment about Tilly either on the radio or on social media.

A source who works at LBC has claimed that in light of the controversy, coworkers of Steve at LBC ‘want him gone’ as he is ‘bringing the reputation of the station down’.

Speaking to The Sun, they said: ‘Steve’s outdated and archaic comments have been allowed to continue for far too long and plenty of people want him out.’

They continued: ‘There’s free speech and then there is calling a teenage girl fat live on the radio. Plenty of people think it’s time he was given his marching orders because this isn’t the first time he’s made unacceptable comments on air and hasn’t been reprimanded.’

The source said that Steve should ‘issue an apology at the least – but people want him gone’, adding: ‘He’s bringing the reputation of the station down.’

In Tilly’s statement that she shared online, she wrote that while she usually tries ‘not to read and listen to comments and negativity’, ‘recently being called out on a national radio station by a 67-year-old man is a step too far’.

She urged people to ‘remember that words can hurt’, adding: ‘I won’t tolerate people that think it’s okay to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone’s weight and appearance.’

Tilly has been inundated with messages of support from people including fellow Strictly competitor John Whaite, comedian Jason Manford and It Takes Two host Rylan Clark-Neal.

Ofcom has confirmed that it’s assessing complaints made against Steve, with a spokesperson for the watchdog telling Metro.co.uk: ‘We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted LBC for comment.
