“Ball Keeps Coming Back”: Matteo Berrettini Highlights the Challenges in Facing Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev

Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev are the two most dominant players on the ATP tour at the moment. In the 2021 season, their performances have been nothing less than spectacular. Recently, these two supreme athletes received praise from another player on the Tour.

The Italian player Matteo Berrettini praised Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev. He feels that there are very few players who create an impact on the court like Medvedev and Nole. To win a point against either of them, one has to put in more work as compared to other players.

Matteo was asked which players on the tour most resemble a tennis ‘backboard’. In response, the 25-year-old player stated, “I would say either Novak or Daniil Medvedev. It always takes something extra to win a point against those two. The ball keeps coming back from all corners of the court.”

Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic met twice in the Majors

Speaking of Djokovic and Medvedev, they were involved in the finals of two Grand Slam events this year. Both matches were played on the hard courts at the Australian Open and the US Open.

Interestingly, it was the Serb who won the battle in the first meeting, but the Russian powerhouse shocked the world when he beat Djokovic in straight sets in USA. In doing so, he was the first player who managed to beat the World No. 1 player in a Grand Slam match this year.

Coming to Berrettini, he was last seen in the Indian Wells Masters 2021. He underperformed according to his standards by losing in the second round. He will be competing at the Rolex Paris Masters next. We wish him all the best for the upcoming matches and for the remainder of this season.
