Canada’s Drag Race season 2: Eliminated queen Océane Aqua-Black reveals just how much knee injury impacted her behind the scenes before exit

Océane Aqua-Black, the second queen to be eliminated from Canada’s Drag Race season 2, has expressed how grateful she feels to have been a part of the competition, revealing just how much her knee injury impacted her ahead of her exit.

In the latest episode of Canada’s Drag Race, which sees Drag Race alum Brooke-Lynn Hytes take RuPaul’s place on the judges’ panel, Océane was unfortunately chosen to sashay away after a clown-inspired Rusical performance and circus-themed runway.

Despite wowing with her black and white ‘Circus BiZerkus’ ensemble, Océane was forced to lip sync against her close friend Icesis Couture, who had come out on top as the winner in week one.

During a recent chat with Metro.co.uk, Océane was asked how she was faring after hurting her knee in week one, an injury that she sustained during a mini challenge.

Viewers couldn’t help but draw a parallel between the incident and what happened to Victoria Scone on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, who ended up having to leave the show after injuring her knee.

Saying that she had the ‘time of my life’ on Canada’s Drag Race, Océane explained that from what she can remember, she doesn’t think that she spoke about her knee injury in episode two.

‘Of course my dancing ability was a little bit reduced, so I could walk on it, I could dance on it, but there’s a lot of things that I couldn’t do also,’ she said.

However, she acknowledged that the injury was ‘part of life’, and while she may have stayed if she had been fully healed, ‘we’ll never know’.

Fortunately, her knee is now all better, taking around two to three weeks to fully recover after her time on the programme came to an end.

The performer said that if she had been asked to leave due to the injury, she would have done everything in her power to stay, adding high praise for the members of the Canada’s Drag Race crew who ‘really took care’ of her behind the scenes and helped her ‘process’ her elimination.

In hindsight, Océane admitted that she feels as though she deserved to be in the bottom two, saying that she was aware that she ‘did poorly’ during the Rusical challenge, in part due to her injury and the challenge of having to sing live, which was out of her comfort zone.

Her close friendship with Icesis meant that if she had won the lip sync, she ‘wouldn’t have felt great either way’ because she would have lost her ‘best friend in this competition’.

‘It was really emotional and I remember a little bit of crying because it’s the end of a long day, we had emotion on the high, we worked very hard. I was overwhelmed with emotion a little bit,’ she recollected.

‘I’m kind of happy that it’s her who sent me home. She’s my friend and I want her to succeed as much as I want to succeed. I know that the bitch is talented as hell, like really talented, so at least I knew that this person can go all the way to the top, because you know, there’s nothing worse than when you get eliminated by one person and the next week that person goes home.’

Océane was also able to open up about her life on the show, telling the other queens how she was adopted from Haiti when she was a baby.

The drag queen emphasised that she doesn’t view her story as sad, expressing her hope that it will show people that ‘there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel’.

‘Even if you experience something like my elimination or my adoption or something like this, if there’s something bad, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel,’ she said.

Océane stressed that just three years ago, watching the UK and US versions of Drag Race, she would ‘never have thought’ that she would go on to star on the show herself.

‘It became possible to me, so you never know what life has in store for you. I think everything just gets better when you set your mind to it,’ she said.

Canada’s Drag Race is available exclusively in the UK on WOW Presents Plus.
