Eddie Hearn Hoping for Dillian Whyte vs. Tyson Fury in Early 2022

Eddie Hearn recently revealed the next big heavyweight matchup that can happen. WBC interim heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte looked to fight Otto Wallin on October 30th, with the winner of that fight set to challenge Tyson Fury. However, they called the fight off when Whyte injured his shoulder during training.

Therefore, now, as they have called off Whyte’s title defense vs Wallin, Whyte can look to challenge Fury when he returns. ‘The Gypsy King’ defended his WBC title against Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder on October 9th and will now have to face the WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn reveals the expected date for the WBC title defense. “I would think Dillian Whyte’s next fight will be Tyson Fury, but we’ll have to see. I’m not ruling out the Otto Wallin fight, that’s a fight that’s at our discretion to reschedule… Dillian should be back early next year, hopefully against Tyson Fury.” 

Fury recently put forward one of the best performances of his life and seems to be in great spirits. The Gypsy King took on his American rival in front of a packed stadium at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Wilder and Fury put on a show and competed in one of the greatest heavyweight showdowns of all time.

The fight had a total of 5 knockouts, with Wilder dropping Fury twice in the fourth round, one round after he fell to the floor following a right hook from Fury.

In the end, Fury prevailed, knocking Wilder out in the 11th round after sensing that the Alabama native had no gas left in the tank. The referee called a stop to the contest when Fury floored Wilder for the third time in the 11th round.

What’s next for Tyson Fury?

Tyson Fury is off on a well-deserved break from the boxing ring. Following his victory, Fury went on a partying spree in Las Vegas and has not started training yet. After he comes back from his break, Fury will look to finalize a date for his Mandatory WBC title defense.

Following this, he will look to replicate the feat he accomplished back in 2015 and fight to unify the heavyweight titles. If Fury does end up beating the WBC mandatory challenger, he will face the winner of the Usyk vs Joshua rematch.
