WWE SmackDown: Sami Zayn gets new theme song for first time in seven years
We’ll need some time to get used to this (Picture: WWE)
It’s an end of an era for Sami Zayn and his fans as the WWE superstar has new entrance music for the first time in seven years.
The former Intercontinental Champion – who has used brass-heavy ska track World’s Collide as his theme song since 2014 when he was still part of the NXT roster – stepped out to a new tune on Friday’s SmackDown to accept Drew McIntyre’s open challenge.
The Scottish Warrior had issued a call-out for anyone on the blue brand to face him as he made his first appearance on the show since getting drafted from Raw, and Zayn was the one to answer.
While the familiar openings of his theme music blared out of the speakers, the song quickly changed into a slower rock beat.
Commentator Pat McAfee referenced the change on-air, and it could take some getting used to for fans, who had loved the singalong nature of his old theme.
However, that will be exactly the reason WWE has made the switch, with Zayn very much established as a heel – and so the cheery tune didn’t necessarily fit the character (as much as he sought the adulation of the crown).
The real question is how it took this long for the company to switch up his presentation, because he’s been working the conspiracy theorist gimmick for a long time now.
As Shinsuke Nakamura has shown, there’s always the possibility of getting your own music back, and he’s been revitalised after returning to the original version of his theme song with Rick Boogs playing live every week.
Maybe one day, Zayn will return to his babyface roots and everyone will get to have a good dance and singalong like the old days.

Honestly, what we’re all just waiting for is Sami to come over to the UK – new or old theme, we don’t really care – and step into the Great British Bake Off tent for a celebrity edition of the show.
‘I can’t say enough good things about [the show]. And I recently learned there’s a Celebrity Bake Off, so if there’s ever some sort of way for me to politick my way into it, I would look forward to that,’ he exclusively told Metro.co.uk last year.
‘I’d have to practice a little bit because I haven’t baked very much – ever, actually. But still, it’d be awesome!’
