Fernando Alonso Questions US GP ‘Show’ Amid His Controversial Kimi Raikkonen F1 Battle

Fernando Alonso did not get the result he wanted from the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. The Alpine driver had to retire from the race after a problem with his car. But he had some battles with Alfa Romeo drivers in the race.

Alonso was battling first with his former rival Kimi Raikkonen and then with Antonio Giovinazzi. When battling with Kimi, Alonso pushed him wide in Turn 1 and out of the track. But the Finn still managed to pass him, but Alonso claimed the move was done out of the track.

The stewards did not agree with Alonso’s claims and stated that Kimi made the move legally. This did not sit down with the two-time world champion, and he called out the stewards for having random rules.

We broke the rear wing: Fernando Alonso

In his post-race interview, Fernando mentioned that he broke the rear wing and had to retire from the race. He mentioned he did not have the easiest of the races.

“We broke the rear wing. At one point, I nearly crashed at the penultimate corner. Luckily that it happened there and not in the first sector so I look in the mirror and the rear wing was bend. So yeah, maybe the bumps were very demanding for the car today.” said Alonso, analyzing his performance.

When asked about the steward’s decision going against him, Fernando replied, “Yeah, well, normal battles, but the rules are a little bit random. For fans here in America, they saw a show today that they didn’t deserve.”

Alonso has been critical of the stewards for most of the season and called them out frequently for their inconsistent rules.
