Floyd Mayweather Would Have Gotten Knocked Out in 2004 if It Wasn’t for a Crucial Adjustment, Says Former Rival

Throughout the years, several elites have tried to defeat Floyd Mayweather. However, none could ever do it. The likes of Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Shane Mosley, and many more came up short against ‘Money’.

However, it wasn’t a walk in the park for Floyd Mayweather. The five-division world champion was shaken several times in his career. While most of his wins were lopsided, some pugilists troubled ‘TBE’.

DeMarcus Corley, who isn’t even the biggest name in Mayweather’s resume, gave the undefeated boxer a tough fight when they clashed at Boardwalk Hall in Atlanta City in 2004. Although Corley ended up losing the fight, he still poleaxed a young Mayweather. 17 years down the line, ‘Chop Chop’ sat with Fred Talks Fighting, and reflected on that performance.

“He knew he was in a real tough fight that night. And if he wouldn’t listen to his uncle, that night would have been short. I would have knocked Floyd out,” said DeMarcus Corley.

Floyd Mayweather was already a two-division world champion by then. He entered the ring with all his confidence and displayed the same in the initial stage. However, Corley found success in round four and connected clean power shots on Mayweather. If not for the ropes, ‘TBE’ would have fallen. Nevertheless, Mayweather regrouped quickly.

He stayed level and outboxed Corley. Later, when ‘Chop Chop’ touched the end of his gas tank, Mayweather poured more shots on him to win the bout via a unanimous decision.

Floyd Mayweather has come a long way

In a career of over two decades, Mayweather has claimed 50 wins in 50 professional fights. That said, most of his fights have seen record-breaking success at the Box Office. His fights against Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor still top the charts.

Well, that’s not all. Mayweather has also tried his hands in an exhibition bout against Logan Paul, amassing over $100 million in one night. So, it reflects the kind of success he has claimed. While Mayweather looked at ease in all his fights, he overcame adversity and grew, thus showing the world that he has come a long way.
