Strictly Coming Dancing 2021: How many weeks are left and who has left so far?

Strictly Come Dancing viewers will see another couple eliminated in Sunday night’s results show, as the weeks until the final quickly count down.

This year’s series has been dubbed as one of the best-ever by many, with the quality of dancing from the celebrities at an all-time high.

While the public has quickly warmed to all the stars taking part, one pairing still has to walk away from the dancing contest each week.

With the final already rapidly approaching, we examine how many weeks of Strictly are left, who has been eliminated, and who’s still in the running for the coveted Glitterball Trophy.

How many weeks are left of Strictly?

A total of 15 celebrities were featured this year after the BBC favourite show returned with a full cast.

Given the first week sees no couple eliminated, there should be 13 consecutive
weeks of Strictly, with the grand final predicted to be taking place on
December 18, the final Saturday before Christmas.

The fourth elimination is set to take place this evening and things are set to stay on track for this end date, even though Robert Webb was forced to pull out due to ill health.

While the final generally includes four celebrities, it is likely they will keep the schedule the same by including just three couples – which means there would be eight more weeks left of Strictly fun to tune into.

Who has left Strictly so far?

Nina Wadia – Left week two

EastEnders star Nina Wadia was the first to leave and waved goodbye to the ballroom in week two after all the show’s stars impressed viewers with their debut routines.

Nina was partnered with Neil Jones but the pair found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard with a total of 42 points from their two dances.

After impressing with their fierce Samba to Mi Gente by J Balvin, Willy William ft Beyoncé, they struggled with the Tango in week two.

They were in the dance-off with soap star Katie McGlynn after performing their Tango to Would I Lie To You? but it wasn’t enough to keep them in the competition.

Katie McGlynn – Left week three

Coronation Street’s Katie found herself in the dance-off for a second week in a row during Movie Week with partner Gorka Marquez after getting to channel her acting skills in a routine inspired by Cruella De Vil.

The pair finished third from bottom on 24 points, with their American Smooth to Cruella De Vil by Mel Leven (Dr John version), from Cruella.

Katie said after her exit: ‘I have absolutely loved my time, I am so happy I got to be Cruella, and dance with this amazing guy, I have loved every second of it.

‘Thank you for being an amazing partner, we have laughed so much, and I get to walk away with an amazing friend. Thanks so much for teaching me in your funny ways, we have had so much fun.’

Robert Webb – Quit show between week three and four

Peep Show star Robert Webb issued an apology to fans after exiting prematurely due to ill health, after being partnered with Dianne Buswell.

It’s the second year in a row a couple has been forced to pull out of the competition due to health reasons, with Nicola Adams and Katya Jones leaving after testing positive with Covid in 2020.

He explained: ‘Two years ago I had open-heart surgery and although I believed I was fit enough to take on Strictly and its demanding schedule, it became clear that I had bitten off way more than I could chew for this stage in my recovery.

‘I had begun to feel symptoms that led me to seek an urgent consultation with my heart specialist, and it was her view that it would be better for the sake of my health to step back from the show.’

Greg Wise – Left week four

After coming out to dance the Samba to the ultimate party tune of The Macarena by Los Del Rio, Greg Wise and Karen Hauer didn’t quite get the reception they hoped for, trailing at the bottom of the leaderboard with 19 points.

Actor Greg, unfortunately, found himself in the bottom two with Karen where the pair were up against Judi Love, who was in the dance-off for the second week in a row.

Greg said after his exit: ‘I have had an amazing time, I feel unbelievably privileged and thank you all for having me.’

Karen also had kind words for Greg, adding: ‘It has been a blast, thank you for the amazing lunches, thanks for the quality of work, and for being an amazing student. I have enjoyed our moments in the classroom and just having fun with you, I’ve really enjoyed it.’

Who is still competing in Strictly 2021?

There are 11 celebrities remaining in the competition, with another set to depart in Sunday’s results show.

Three frontrunners seem to have emerged as favourites to win out of the remaining celebrities, with AJ Odudu, Rose Ayling-Ellis and John Whaite currently backed by bookmakers.

Rose is ahead of the pack at 4/6 odds, with Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes saying: ‘Rose and Giovanni are running away with the competition this year and it’s going take something special for the odds-on favourites to fail now.’

Other stars who remain in the competition include BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker, Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty, Dragon’s Den expert Sara Davies and McFly’s Tom Fletcher.

Former rugby star and Question of Sport’s Ugo Monye, celebrity chef Tilly Ramsay, comedian Judi Love and CBBC presenter, Rhys Stephenson complete the line-up of celebrities still in the running for the Glitterball Trophy.

Judi is currently out for the week due to contracting Covid but is set to return in next Saturday’s show, all being well, with partner Graziano Di Prima.

Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight at 7.15pm on BBC One.
