Top Gear Star Jeremy Clarkson’s Reaction Sums Up Max Verstappen’s US GP Performance

The United States GP was an action-packed blockbuster. Thrill, suspense, and even a throwback battle, the race was engrossing from start to finish. Most of the credit goes to the championship protagonists. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have been at it the entire weekend, and on Sunday, it all came down to the wire. Everyone was left speechless, except to say: What a drive!

Max Verstappen not only proved his skills as a driver but his intellect as a championship contender. Having managed his tires perfectly, Red Bull‘s ambitious strategy was a success only because of their driver. As Twitter blows up in awe of the Dutchman, the phrase “What a drive” was the collective emotion.

Fuck me. Max Verstappen. What a drive.

F1 journalist Jeremy Clarkson, however, compiled everyone’s emotions into three concise statements and seven words. “F*ck me. Max Verstappen. What a drive.”

A precise representation of what anyone who witnessed that masterpiece of a race is feeling. Max Verstappen has now doubled his lead over Lewis, the biggest gap we’ve seen in the last eight races.

Twitter reveres Max Verstappen

Jeremy Clarkson wasn’t the only one left agape at the end of the race. Fans soon channeled two hours’ worth of thrill into their excited tweets. The “what a drive” feeling was a common theme.

In fact, Verstappen’s race engineers, Gianpiero Lambiase, and Christian Horner couldn’t find any other words to describe the feeling.

Looking back at the race

Although Max put up a spectacular show, Lewis wasn’t far behind; literally. The Mercedes driver was painfully close to winning the race. The final stint could have been anyone’s game; it did come down to the wire in COTA.

Hamilton’s start and his overtake later on were perfect. Further, there was a moment in the race, where the assumption was that the game would be in the Brit’s hands. But such is the sport of Formula 1.

The COTA is known to be a Mercedes circuit, and the Silver Arrows showed incredible speed over the weekend. Even Christian Horner couldn’t believe the results of the race. “Big for us to beat Mercedes here. I really didn’t think he was going to pull that off.”

Overall, the sun shone brightly over the Red Bull garage as they ended their weekend with a double podium. As Verstappen would say: Simply lovely.
