What Weight Classes Does Gervonta Davis Fight In?

Gervonta Davis is one of the smartest boxers of recent times. In the past few years, Davis remained a center of attraction with his sublime in-ring performances. Also, he climbed up to different weight classes over the course of time, and across every roster, he rolled out some high-class performances.

When ‘Tank’ began his career back in 2013, his prime aim was to keep fighting in different weight classes, thus keeping himself challenged. That said, he debuted in the featherweight frame, but soon enough, he fought in the super-featherweight, lightweight, and super-lightweight divisions.

Out of all the weight classes he fought in, featherweight was the only division wherein he did not have an intent to win the title. But apart from that, he held some elite straps across the other rosters.

That said, here we look at ‘Tank’s accomplishments in different weight classes.

Titles held by Gervonta Davis in the super-featherweight division

In 2017, Davis contended with Jose Pedraza for the IBF super-featherweight title. He won this fight with a T/KO in round 7. But in the same year; he got stripped off the title for missing weight against Francisco Fonseca.

As a result, in his next fight, Davis fought for the WBA super-featherweight title and even won it in style. In a couple of fights ahead, Davis defended his WBA strap successfully.

Lightweight

In 2019, ‘Tank’ battled Yuriorkis Gamboa for the vacant WBA lightweight title. Putting his fine prowess to the display, Davis attained a T/KO win in round 12 of the fight. Moving ahead, he successfully defended his WBA super-featherweight title and WBA lightweight title against Leo Santa Cruz in his next fight.

Super-lightweight

Earlier this year, Davis notched up to the super-lightweight division. He had his eyes set on the WBA super-lightweight ‘regular’ title and for that, he had to overcome the fellow undefeated boxer in Mario Barrios.

In this fight, it seemed as if Davis would end up on the losing vertical if the fight went to the judges’ scorecards. However, ‘Tank’ put his power to the test and knocked out Barrios in round 11. Hence, he dethroned him and claimed the WBA super-lightweight title.
