Adele Roberts: Who is the Radio 1 DJ’s girlfriend Kate Holderness?

Adele Roberts’ girlfriend Kate Holderness has called the DJ her ‘hero’ and her ‘world’ following her cancer diagnosis.

Adele, 42, has confirmed that she is fighting bowel cancer, and will be undergoing surgery today to have a tumour removed.

In the wake of the news, Kate shared a post on Instagram, saying there have been a lot of tears during Adele’s illness.

She wrote: ‘MY HERO✨MY WORLD🌍MY LOVE♥️ My @adeleroberts, after lots of checks, tests & scans, has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. The last few weeks have been…well I can’t even describe them.

‘Nothing feels real…but also suddenly everything feels hyper real. There have been lots of tears (mainly from me), lots of sleepless nights, but surprisingly there’s been a lot of laughing too. I can’t wait for Adele to tell you about those times when she’s on the mend.

‘Tomorrow she’ll be having surgery…I can’t go with her or be there when she wakes up & it’s the most horrible feeling desperately wanting her to get in that hospital ASAP but desperately not wanting to be without her.

‘I’m so so grateful to the GP who sent her on for further checks. So grateful to the team of doctors & nurses who are looking after her right now, I could kiss every single one of them, God Bless the NHS 🙏🏼

‘Adele is really young for the ‘expected’ age of this type of cancer – the doctor who’s treating her says they’re seeing it younger and younger these days but nobody knows exactly why. All the things they say put you at higher risk – smoking, drinking, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle – she DOESN’T do. All the things they say help you prevent cancer – exercise, healthy diet, healthy lifestyle, lots of veggies – she DOES.

‘It was hard to get my head around without thinking how unfair that was but I now understand it can happen to anyone. Cancer’s never fair is it? I’m thinking of you if you’re going through this right now – from my 2am internet rampages I now realise just how many people are. Lots of love.’

Who is Kate Holderness?

Kate, 37, is an actor, who began her TV career back in 1997 in the CITV show Knight School.

More recently she’s been seen in Coronation Street, playing a character named Jamie Lee in a couple of episodes in 2013, as well as a pair of period dramas for the BBC – Henry VIII and his Six Wives, in which she played his final wife Catherine Parr, and 2017’s Elizabeth I.

Kate has also had a number of small roles in Emmerdale and accompanied Adele on Celebrity Coach Trip last year.

Outside of TV, she moved into vlogging and presenting with Adele, as the couple hosted their own YouTube series Friday Night Fakeaway.

Kate is also an artist, and sells doodles and prints of famous queer people, like Anne Lister, the subject of Gentleman Jack, online.

How long have Adele and Kate been together?

The couple celebrated 17 years together back in February.

In an Instagram post, Kate wrote: ‘Happy anniversary my love ❤️ 17 years & I still want to be with you every second.’

They appear to have got together on Kate’s birthday, as the anniversary post was shared on February 17, Kate’s birthday.

Adele suggested that they met in Storm nightclub in Preston in her own birthday post, writing: ‘Happy birthday my love! 🎈 I hope all your dreams & wishes come true. That’s what you’ve done for me. Getting me through lockdowns and life since 2004. 17 years of having the best friend a girl could wish for. AND THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. I feel like it’s my birthday everyday.

Adele came out publicly as bisexual two years prior when she was on Big Brother in 2002.

She was seen having to let fellow housemate Lee down gently, revealing that she was bi and had a girlfriend outside of the house.
