JJ Redick Explains How Kevin Durant Is a ‘Modern Version’ of Kobe Bryant

It seemed like the Milwaukee Bucks had broken their confidence after being defeated on opening night, at least that’s what the Brooklyn Nets fans assumed. Right after, they were able to get back up with a win against the Philadelphia 76ers thanks to Kevin Durant, only to be knocked down again by the Charlotte Hornets by a 111-95 score.

The season might have just started, but a team that’s been predicted to make an appearance in the NBA Finals, a start like this is worrisome. However, Kevin Durant is not at all worried even now. The fact that Kyrie Irving is not playing for them at the moment, hardly has him rattled. And now that he is being compared to the likes of another NBA legend, it should only boost his confidence even more.

On ‘The Old Man and the Three’ Podcast, JJ Redick made a bizarre Kobe Bryant and KD comparison. Redick has had the opportunity to guard the Lakers legend, and see’s a lot of similarities when it comes to Durant. He started off, “Guarding Kobe Bryant was sort of like an exercise in futility. There was nothing you could do defensively to stop him. He was either going to make the shot or miss the shot.”

“I feel as if Kevin Durant is the modern version of Kobe. There’s not a whole lot you can do to stop him. He’s got the handle, got the jumper, he’s got everything he can do.”

Can Kevin Durant keep his inner Kobe Bryant around to win more?

Despite waiting months for the James Harden, Durant, and Kyrie trio to play together, fans might not get to see it after all. There have been rumors of pulling off a trade, because of Irving’s rigidity to not get vaccinated. However, until then they have to make do with what they have.

And they have Durant, along with Harden. A big enough reason to still have everyone convinced they’re in title contention even now. Of course, the Eastern Conference gets more competitive every season, so they do have to buck up. But as long as KD and Harden keep the numbers up, chances of a downfall seem less likely.
