LaMelo Ball Joins LeBron James in New Record Following Brilliant Start to 2021–22 NBA Season

Charlotte Hornets are off to an excellent start this season. The Hornets have won all three of their opening fixtures of the 2021-22 NBA season. One of their star performers, LaMelo Ball, has recently achieved a massive feat and is just behind LeBron James in the record.

The Hornets have failed to qualify for the playoffs for the past five seasons. But this time, they look sharp and can make it to the playoffs. LaMelo Ball has been pivotal for the Hornets in the past three games and even scored 31 points in the first game.

LaMelo is now averaging 22 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 6 APG this season. However, the 20-year-old has achieved a major NBA feat after managing such numbers and is just second to LeBron.

LaMelo Ball achieved a major NBA feat, only second to LeBron James

LaMelo Ball is now the second-youngest player in the NBA history to average at least 20 points/5 rebounds/5 assists per game in the first three games of a season. Only LeBron James has achieved this feat at a younger age.

Lakers star LeBron James averaged such numbers in the 2004-05 season. LeBron came into the 2004-05 season fresh after winning the Rookie of the Year. However, that season, the Cavaliers failed to make it to the playoffs. Despite a 30-20 record at the start of that season, the Cavaliers finished the season 42-40 and missed the playoff spot.

Just like LeBron James, LaMelo Ball is looking sharp after receiving the Rookie of the Year award last season. He scored 31 points in the first game of the season against the Pacers and registered nine rebounds and seven assists as well. However, the Pacers mounted a final quarter comeback but in the end, lost the game by a point.

But the Hornets managed to win their next two games comfortably against the Cavs and the Nets. LaMelo scored 18 points against the Nets to help the team win a tough away game. If LaMelo continues playing in the same form, he could end up breaking some of LeBron’s records from his young times.
