“Slightly Annoying”: Matteo Berrettini on Playing Against Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic

Over the past two decades, there are three names in the men’s game that have dominated the scenes in world tennis. Those players go by the name of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. As of today, they are tied on 20 Grand Slam titles each. 

Recently, Matteo Berrettini took the names of these three players. He praised Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. When he was asked who is the toughest player he has faced so far, the Italian player named the Big 3. He even joked that had these three players not been there, he would’ve won more titles by now. 

The 25-year-old spoke on this and stated, “I would need to go with Djokovic, Nadal, or Federer. Arguably the three greatest players of all time. It has been exciting to be played simultaneously as all three, but also slightly annoying (joking) as I’d probably have a few more trophies at home.”

The greatness of the Swiss maestro, the Spanish ace, and the Serbian machine has been unmatched by any player that has ever played this sport. The fact we have got to witness these players all at one time is a blessing for fans. One can say at certain points during their careers, they have all pushed each other to become better players.

Coming to tennis, Federer ended his season after requiring another knee surgery. He will take a while to come back on a tennis court again. Similarly, Nadal ended his season too after his foot has yet not healed. He is targeting a return early on in 2022.

Sadly, Djokovic lost the US Open final and ended his hopes of winning all four Majors in a single season. We hope to see the players return back from their injuries stronger and also it will be interesting to see how the Serb finished this season off.
