The Outlaws: Who is in the cast with Stephen Merchant?

There’s a brand new comedy series heading to our screens, with Stephen Merchant’s crime caper The Outlaws arriving on BBC One.

Merchant, known for his work on classic comedies The Office and Extras, co-created the series and leads the cast of the star-studded programme.

The Outlaws focuses on seven strangers completing their community service, all the while a dangerous gang threatens the peace.

The first trailer promises the kind of awkward comedy chops that have made Merchant one of the biggest names in UK comedy over the past 20 years.

A whole host of major names join him in the new programme and there’s more on the way too, with a second series of the show already confirmed.

But who’s in the cast? Here’s everything you need to know.

Merchant leads the cast as a lawyer who is coping with a messy divorce.

He’s joined by none other than Hollywood legend Christopher Walken, who plays the charismatic con-man Frank, who is attempting to reconnect with this family after leaving prison.

Killing Eve’s Darren Boyd stars as John, a businessman who isn’t at all happy with the situation he finds himself in.

Elsewhere, former Eastenders actress Clare Perkins stars as Myrna, an ageing activist and campaigner.

Poldark’s Eleanor Tomlinson plays Gabby, an influencer and reality star who finds herself thoroughly out of her comfort zone.

Rhianne Barreto plays Rani, an intelligent student who is led astray by shoplifting.

Richard E Grant, Claes Bang, Jessica Gunning, Charles Babalola, Ian McElhinney, Dolly Wells and Nina Wadia also appear in the series.

Filming was interrupted in 2020 by the pandemic. However, production resumed in December, with strict Covid-19 restrictions in place.

Stephen Merchant said at the time: ‘Like so many other productions, we’d just begun filming when Covid-19 struck and we had to shut down.

‘I’m delighted that we’re now finally able to resume filming with this incredible cast and finish this long-standing passion project.

‘This is the first series I’ve made in my hometown of Bristol and I’m so excited to showcase the city and utilise the amazing local talent.’

The Outlaws premieres at 9pm on October 25 on BBC One, and will be released weekly on Mondays.
