Alex Rider season 2 is officially on its way and the trailer has teased some twists and turns galore, with some major action.

Starring Otto Farrant as the teenage spy, the series shows Alex being recruited by the Department of Special Operations, a subdivision of MI6.

However, he’s still trying to grapple with life as a teenager.

The new trailer opens with Alex being asked: ‘Alex, this is your third absence. Where have you been?’

Of course, he’s ‘had a lot going on,’ which translates to him quite literally playing with fire and beating up the bad guys.

‘The conspiracy continues’, the trailer teases, with Alex telling new character Sabina (Charithra Chandran) that her journalist dad was wanted dead for something he wrote.

Things are about to get a whole lot more terrifying for Alex as his life is in danger.

Will he get out alive? And what does tech entrepreneur Damian Cray (Toby Stephens) have to hide?

Alex Rider is based on the wildly popular books by Anthony Horowitz, with the author saying: ‘After the success of Season One, I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to reassemble our fantastic cast for this second, action-packed adventure…with the added bonus of Toby Stephens in a key role.’

A synopsis for the new season reads: ‘Alex is still reeling from the traumatic events at Point Blanc, and desperately wants to return to a normal life.

‘But when his new friend Sabina’s father, journalist Ed Pleasance, is attacked by Yassen Gregorovich, the man who may have killed his uncle, Alex reluctantly finds himself drawn back into the world of international espionage.

‘Cut loose from his one-time allies within shadowy MI6 division The Department, Alex discovers a link between Ed,a dangerous hacker known as Smoking Mirror, and tech billionaire Damian Cray.

‘With the help of his guardian Jack and trusted friend Tom, Alex must unravel a sinister political plot with global repercussions, the answer to which may be locked within Cray’s latest product, the global phenomenon video game Feathered Serpent.’

Horowitz previously revealed that the series could adapt all of his books.

‘Don’t forget, you know, there are 12 more books,’ he told Digital Spy. ‘So if it works as a TV show that can run and run, then you know, Otto will sort of be in his late ’40s.

‘From my point of view, TV is exactly the right place to be. Now you look around at Stranger Things for example and you think to yourself: “This is exactly…”

‘You know, you have eight parts which gives you more depth and you can do more things.’

We wouldn’t be mad!

IMDB TV’s Alex Rider season 2 is released on Prime Video on December 3.
