Anita Dobson has spoken out about husband Brian May’s series of health issues last year, admitting she was concerned ‘something awful’ would happen to him.

The Queen star, 74, faced a series of health problems last year, including a heart attack, stomach haemorrhage, tear to his gluteus maximus and sciatica, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Appearing on Lorraine on Tuesday, Anita, 72, revealed: ‘It was a sort of litany of disasters really. When we first got the news that the studios and theatres were closing and Covid had struck, you sort of think “oh, a little respite from work so make the most of it.”

‘And then first of all he got sciatica, then he had a heart attack and then he had a haemorrhage, so he was really in a bad way.’

She continued: ‘It’s funny because you think you’ll react a certain way when a disaster happens or when somebody you love is really ill, and sometimes you react completely differently to the way you expected.

‘I sort of went into shock, I couldn’t believe it. I kind of was almost numbed with the fear that something awful was going to happen to him.

‘But thank god he’s back on form and doing his exercises, swimming regularly and making music.’

Brian thankfully appears to be on the mend after a nightmare year, after having three stents inserted following his heart attack.

He told PA in September: ‘What also happened was I got very sick. I got a heart attack for no reason I can possibly see.

‘I didn’t really tick any of the boxes for heart attacks but I got it. That knocks you back, I have to say. It knocks the stuffing out of you. I had a lot of other complications.’

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
