Noel Fielding couldn’t hide his horror as he witnessed disaster strike the Great British Bake Off tent, unable to watch as a pie split in half at the last minute.

As all passionate Bake Off fans will be well aware, of all the weeks of the competition, pastry week always poses an extremely tough challenge.

This time around, the contestants were set three incredibly difficult tasks – decorated chouxnuts for their signature, an ‘impossible’ baklava for the technical, and terrine pies for the showstopper.

While some of the bakers excelled throughout the two days, with Crystelle receiving an extremely rare Paul Hollywood handshake for her showstopper, others struggled at their workstations, with Amanda requiring a helping hand to salvage her pie after it broke in half.

After taking her pie out of the oven, Amanda went to remove it from the tin, only for the bottom half of the pie to fall onto her cooling tray while the top half remained in the tin.

Staying as calm and collected as possible as she grimaced over her broken bake, Chigs quickly swooped in to help as presenters Noel and Matt Lucas watched with concerned looks on their faces.

Lizzie and Giuseppe watched from afar, with last week’s Star Baker covering his mouth in shock at Amanda’s unfortunate mishap.

Chigs struggled to handle the hot tin, Noel remarked: ‘I can’t watch’ as Matt replied: ‘I know, it’s too stressful.’

While George decided to keep the tin on his pie to avoid it from breaking, Amanda pulled the side of hers away to reveal her collapsing pastry.

‘Panicking now. It’s a mess,’ Amanda said, as a horror-stricken Giuseppe said: ‘I can’t watch.’

In the end, Amanda’s collapsed pie contributed to her becoming the latest baker to be eliminated, while Crystelle was named Star Baker for the first time.

One fan tweeted that they felt ‘heartbroken’ over Amanda’s pie, while another wrote: ‘I cannot take this Amanda pie drama.’

After her exit, Amanda shared how much fun she’s had in the competition amid the stress.

‘I mean you’ve got to go sometime, haven’t you?’ she said.

‘I didn’t think when I got here I’d get that far after seeing all the other bakers but I’ve had such a good time.’

Amanda added that it was ‘fun stress’ in the Bake Off tent, speculating that if she hadn’t ‘talked so much’, then perhaps she may have progressed further in the competition.

Regardless, she’s done herself extremely proud!

Great British Bake Off returns next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
