“Great Deal of Uncertainty”: Sad News for Australian Open 2022 Warm-Up Tournament
In the tennis calendar year, the Australian Open is one of the biggest events in this elegant sport. As it is the first Grand Slam event of the year, there have been unfortunate updates with regard to the warm-up tournaments prior to it.
Recently, a major warm-up tournament for the Australian Open was canceled. For the second year, the Kooyong Classic, which is normally played in the weeks prior to the first Grand Slam of the season, has been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. The event is conducted in Melbourne.
The president of the tournament, Adam Cossar released a statement that said, “With the great deal of uncertainty over recent months about the arrangements that would be in place in January, it has not been possible to make the best plans to deliver the best and safest sporting (event).”
Players faced restrictions in the Australian Open last season
At the moment, things are shaping up in a similar fashion as it was in the current season. In that case, players will need to undergo quarantine for 14 days, but they are still awaiting confirmation on this aspect.
As we speak about the Australian Open, the defending champion Novak Djokovic made an interesting revelation with regard to the latest development of the Australian Open 2022. It was announced some time ago that players will need to be vaccinated in order to compete in the upcoming season’s event.

On hearing that, the World No. 1 player cast his doubts on whether he would be competing in next year’s edition of his most successful Grand Slam event. However, the latest development could be handy for the Serbian ace. If players undergo the 14-day quarantine period, they would be allowed to compete in the event.
As there are still a few months to go for the Australian Open, one can expect to hear about a few more changes with regard to the event. We hope things go smoothly and the event can be conducted smoothly.
