BBC Two’s Autumnwatch finally returned with a brand new series on Tuesday night, however, fan-favourite Iolo Williams was missing.

The programme began with Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan appearing live at Wild Ken Hill in Norfolk where they revealed what’s changed since spring.

In Northern Ireland, Gillian Burke dug deep into how moles cache worms for the cooler months, while Chris’s stepdaughter Megan McCubbin reported live from the Isle of Mull, a place famous for its eagles, red deer and otters.

Eagle-eyed viewers noticed that Iolo was absent from any live coverage.

Want to know why Iolo won’t be featuring in any live reports this time around? Well, look no further.

He revealed the news earlier this month, stressing that he will soon be back for Winterwatch.

‘Unfortunately, I won’t be live on Autumnwatch this year,’ he penned. ‘The dates had to be changed to accommodate live coverage of the FA Cup and the new dates clashed with a week’s guiding on Mull.

‘I’ll miss the team but I’ll be back for Winterwatch. Good luck team!’
