Daniil Medvedev startled the tennis world at the US Open 2021 by knocking out the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the finals. Registering a straight-set victory, the former demonstrated total dominance throughout the competition. In a recent talk show, the Russian revealed the secret behind his strange celebration after lifting the trophy.
When he addressed in his on-court acceptance speech at the US Open, the 25-year-old hinted that his “dead fish” post-match celebration was a gaming allusion. Medvedev did the L2 + left celebration which is the code for the FIFA brick fall goal celebration. He said only legends will comprehend.
Daniil Medvedev wanted to lift the trophy at Wimbledon 2021
Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden Grand Slam trophy at US Open 2021. The Russian surpassed the unstoppable Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the finals of the event. Just recently, in a talk show with Tecnifibre, Medvedev disclosed the peculiar celebration he displayed at the Flushing Meadows.

The Russian started by saying, “It was not crazy. It was quite calm. It’s called the dead fish celebration in FIFA.
“When I’m on the court I take tennis as a hard job, I really try to win, it’s what I do every day, what time I do for a living so I take it as a job. But at the same time I wanna have a memories where I enjoy tennis.”
Moreover, Medvedev confessed that he wanted to do this celebration after winning at Wimbledon 2021. Unfortunately, the Russian lost in the fourth round and couldn’t pursue further.
He said, “I wanted to do it in Wimbledon but I lost fourth round.
“During the Wimbledon, I was feeling pretty good and I was trying not to visualize myself straight winning Wimbledon. But I wanted to go further.”

Medvedev shocked at Indian Wells
After successful runs at US Open and Laver Cup, Medvedev entered the Indian Wells as a title contender. He cruised into a fourth of the competition without any obstacles. However, Grigor Dimitrov stunned World No. 2 as he overcame Medvedev despite trailing behind by one set.

Daniil Medvedev will be next seen in action at the ATP Masters tournament in Paris, France. The Russian is the defending champion at that tournament.
