Squid Game creator Hawng Dong-hyuk has responded to LeBron James’ scathing review of the Netflix smash.

While Squid Game’s ending will go down in history as one of the most WTF moments ever, the pinnacle of a rug pull, the basketball ace, who recently appeared in Space Jam: A New Legacy, isn’t a fan and was caught critiquing the series to his teammate Anthony Davis after a recent game.

‘Yeah, I did finish it. You finish it? You watched it? You done?’ James said to Davis in a video exposed by Kyle Goon of The Orange County Register.

‘Yeah, I didn’t like the ending though,’ he continued. ‘I know they start it off with a season two but, like, get on the f****** flight and go see your daughter, bro. Like what are you doing?’

Well, Dong-hyuk has now discovered James’ remarks and responded: ‘Have you seen Space Jam 2? LeBron James is cool and can say what he wants. I respect that. I’m very thankful he watched the whole series. But I wouldn’t change my ending.’

He added to the Guardian: ‘That’s my ending. If he has his own ending that would satisfy him, maybe he could make his own sequel.

‘I’ll check it out and maybe send him a message saying, “I liked your whole show, except the ending.”’

Squid Game concluded with Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) wining the prize money, before learning who’s really running the game, going on to spend some of his hard-won prize to dye his hair bright red and board a flight to LA to reunite with his young daughter.

Before he does, though, he spots the same recruiter who targeted him at the beginning trying to convince another to play the same envelope game. Grabbing the recruitment card from the man’s hands, as the recruiter slide onto the train and out of sight, Gi-hun chooses not to get on the plane and instead calls the number and informs the person on the other end he’s on his way to find them (despite being told to get on the aircraft).

Naturally the 111 million of us who tuned in are gagging for a season two to be confirmed by Netflix.

In the same interview, addressing the prospect of another series, Dong-hyuk said of course there’s been a ‘talk’.

Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix now.
