WWE star Carmella insists she has to ‘work twice as hard as everyone else’ because she’s ‘pretty’

WWE’s Carmella recently spoke out about how she is treated differently in her role due to her looks.
The wrestling star recently moved from Smackdown to Raw and has a host of achievements in the ring.
However, the popular WWE star claimed she needs to ‘work twice as hard’ as some of her colleagues to earn respect to do being ‘pretty’.
Carmella was asked for her thoughts on co-star Mandy Rose’s comments just days ago, in which she said she wanted ‘more respect’ for her ability rather than how she looks.
Chatting on the After the Bell podcast to now-fiancée Corey Graves, Carmella said: ‘Good luck, because when you’re pretty, that doesn’t happen.’
Explaining her frustrations further, she said: ‘That fires me up, it really does. I get so upset when I hear something like that, because [Mandy Rose] is pretty, and she’s a babe, and she has a great body then she can’t be good in the ring. She just can’t.

‘When I got signed in NXT, I remember (former trainer) Bill DeMott said, “You’re going to have to work twice as hard as everyone else because you’re pretty.”
‘I remember being like, “What? That’s crazy”. You see all these girls from the past that were gorgeous and these models and all of that, so I was like, that’s crazy to hear from a coach. “You’re going to have to work twice as hard because people aren’t going to respect you because of how you look”.’
Former trainer DeMott resigned from WWE in 2015 after allegations were made of his behaviour in the industry.
Carmella went on to recognise the ‘amazing things’ she has done as a pro wrestler and refused to apologise for her achievements.
She added: ‘I’ve done amazing things in this business and I’m not sorry for them, I’m not apologising for that and I’m proud of myself for that.
‘No matter what, I’m never going to get the respect that I deserve because of how I look and that’s just how it is.
‘If I didn’t look like this and I had the same matches and same career, people would be like “Carmella is amazing, we love her”.
‘Because I look how I do, I’m not going to get the respect that I deserve.’
Rose – who won the NXT Women’s Championship on Tuesday night’s Halloween Havoc special – said she wanted people to recognise the work she’d put in ‘inside and outside the ring’ as she looked to rebrand herself.

She said: ‘Coming off Tough Enough, it was all about my looks, but I don’t want it to just always be about my looks. I’m tired of that. I’m tired of everyone saying she’s just a hot blonde.’
