Adele Roberts has shared an update after undergoing surgery to remove a tumour related to her bowel cancer

The BBC Radio 1 presenter revealed last week that she had been diagnosed with the disease a month ago after noticing symptoms.

On Monday, she had an operation to remove a tumour after and will now be examined to determine if further treatment is required.

In her first Instagram post since the surgery, Adele, 42, told her concerned followers on Thursday: ‘Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone. You’ve been absolutely incredible! So kind, sending good wishes and looking after my family.’

Sharing an insight into her ordeal post-operation, she explained: ‘You are the greatest! You’ve kept me going. I’ve had my ups and downs this week but today I really feel like I’m starting to turn a corner and hopefully I’ll be well enough to go home soon.

‘I’m so sorry I’ve not been in here much. I’ve not really been on my phone but my family have been telling me how wonderful everyone has been. You’ve brought them so much comfort. From the bottom of my heart thank you.’

Adele went on to thank her medical team, adding: ‘God bless the NHS. I cannot believe how hard they work and how much they care. They’re next level – so special.

‘Sending you so much love if you’re going through a tough time at the moment. Especially if you’re living with cancer. There’s a few ladies on my ward who are inspiring me everyday. They’re warriors – stopped me feeling sorry for myself many a time! Also reminding me that I’m not alone in this and that it could be much worse for me.

‘Thank you once again to everyone getting me through. Including the BT Tower! 🥰.’

The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here star went on to detail the small positives she takes from each day, including watching the BT Tower before her radio shows each morning and watching the sun rise as London wakes up.

‘I always look out for the message of the day too,’ she continued. ‘I never realised that one day I’d be watching the sun from the other side. Seeing ‘Good morning London’ everyday has made me so grateful and been my reminder that everything is going to be ok. Had my first solid breakfast watching the day begin this morning 😍🥣☕️.

‘Have a great week everyone and please go and see someone if you’re worried about anything that’s not normal for you. Early detection saves lives. I don’t want this little horror taking any more of us.’

Adele received support from her celebrity friends, including Fleur East who commented: ‘Sending you and your family so much love Adele. Thank you for sharing your experience, hopefully will help others detect signs early and encourage others who are going through the same thing right now. You are so strong!! Keep smiling! 🙌❤️❤️❤️😊.’

More: Cancer

Adele rose to fame as a housemate on Big Brother in 2002 while also participating in the 19th series of I’m A Celebrity in 2019.

In January 2020, she won the sixth season of E4’s Celebrity Coach Trip alongside her girlfriend, Kate Holderness.

After announcing her heartbreaking diagnosis, Adele was supported by girlfriend Kate, who shared a photo of them together with the caption: ‘The last few weeks have been…well I can’t even describe them.

‘Nothing feels real…but also suddenly everything feels hyper real. There have been lots of tears (mainly from me), lots of sleepless nights, but surprisingly there’s been a lot of laughing too. I can’t wait for Adele to tell you about those times when she’s on the mend.’
