JJ Watt Injury Report: Horrible News for Arizona Cardinals Fans

Arizona Cardinals star defensive end is reported to miss the rest of the season after he goes through a season-ending shoulder surgery according to multiple sources. JJ Watt picked up the injury while getting hurt in the second quarter of his game against the Texans and still deciding to play the rest of the game with it.

Even though the Cardinals completely obliterated the Texans with a 31-5 scoreline, Watt chose to be a part of it despite the discomfort. It is going to be a major setback for the 7-0 Cardinals for the rest of the 2021 season. And with that, the Cardinals’ serious contention so far this season is now in question.

Watt has registered 16 tackles (five for loss), one sack, 10 quarterback hits and a forced fumble in seven games in the 2021 season. His contribution to the Cardinals has put them in a reputed spot with high hopes of making the playoffs.

During his absence, the team will heavily rely on players like Markus Golden and Chandler Jones. Michael Dogbe will step up into the starting lineup at Watt’s position to fill in the enormous void left open.

Watt has an impressive resume, with a record of two seasons with 20 or more sacks and five seasons with 10 or more sacks. His total of 102 sacks in his career occupies the third spot among active players and 31st in NFL history.

A major setback for Arizona Cardinals

However, his unfortunate injuries have hampered four of his previous six seasons. His 2016 season ended with a herniated disc, a tibial plateau fracture ended his 2017 season and a torn left pectoral cut short his 2019 season, though he returned for the playoffs that season.

The Cardinals‘ 32-year-old defensive end will hope to do the same this year as well. His aim would be to recover until the postseason starts as he would not let the opportunity to win the first Super Bowl trophy in his career slip. However, their next game against the Packers is going to be the one to watch as both the teams are in dominant form.
