Kei Nishikori Announces Unfortunate News Following His Commitment to Play Paris Masters 2021

The final tournament on the ATP tour, Rolex Paris Masters will be taking place from 1st November to 7th November 2021. With the date coming closer, the expectation for the event is growing exponentially. However, there has been unfortunate news from the camp of Japanese star, Kei Nishikori, ahead of the event.

The 31-year-old has been missing from action since the Indian Wells tournament in California.

Kei Nishikori withdraws from Paris Masters

The Japanese superstar, Kei Nishikori, has unfortunately announced his withdrawal from the Paris Masters. The former World No. 4 has had a career marked by unfortunate injuries and is now set to miss another major event on the ATP tour.

Earlier, when news broke of his withdrawal from the ongoing Vienna Open, Nishikori had tweeted that his next tournament would be in Paris. The situation must have changed since as news broke recently that he won’t be competing in Paris.

At Indian Wells, Nishikori cleared the first round in a three-set thriller against Joao Sousa. He then faced Dan Evans in the second round. However, the Brit dominated over Nishikori and won the contest in three sets. Since then, Kei Nishikori hasn’t participated on the ATP Tour.

James Duckworth to play in Paris

The spot vacated by Nishikori will be taken up by World No. 51 James Duckworth. The Australian was recently knocked out of St. Petersburg Open in the first round.

With Kei Nishikori withdrawing from the tournament, James Duckworth got a spot. Now all eyes are on World No. 55, Mackenzie McDonald. McDonald will be the next beneficiary in-line if another player withdraws from the Paris Masters.
