Bad news for any The O. C. fans hoping to see the gang come together for a reunion anytime soon as Adam Brody made it clear he’s not into the idea.
The 41-year-old, who famously played beloved character Seth Cohen on the hit series, did not hold back when explained why he just doesn’t think a revival of popular drama would make sense in today’s world.
Speaking candidly on the Welcome to The O.C, B***hes podcast hosted by his on-screen lover and IRL ex Rachel Bilson (and their fellow co-star Melinda Clarke), the Shazam! star explained why he has no hopes for a reboot.
‘I kind of don’t think it can be done because socially we’re in a different place and we’re in a more conscious place,’ he mused. ‘While The O.C. claims to be – in a similar sense as a Gossip Girl – while it would sort of say it’s a critique, it’s not. It’s a celebration – it’s a celebration of affluence in my opinion.’
The Kid Detective star, who appeared on the show during its four-season run from 2003 to 2007, discussed the changing viewing habits of audiences in the politically heightened and socially aware world we now live in.
He continued: ‘For me, in a post-Donald Trump America to go, “Let’s go back to Orange County,” I feel like you have to have a real reckoning politically and socially, and is that what people want to see with this show? I don’t know.

‘And is there a way to do both? There is, I suppose, but in my eyes, I probably want to torch it more than the fans would want.’
Indeed, The O.C. did follow a group of privileged high schoolers in Orange County, centering around their dramatic personal lives, while Gossip Girl was focused on rich kids in New York City.
Considering Gossip Girl, which was also brought to TV screens by The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz, was one of the lastest projects to get rebooted with varying results, we can’t help but think that might have influenced Adam’s answer.

Especially thanks to the real-life crossover moment that saw Adam marry to original Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, with the couple sharing two children together.
For what it’s worth, Rachel Bilson has always shown interest in a reboot. However that could be down to the fact the actress always believed that working with Adam helped elevate her skills as a performer.
She told Adam in the podcast that show could still make a return if her former co-stars and the writers came together to come up with a meaningul plot.
