Former Finalist Denis Shapovalov Announces Unfortunate News Ahead of Paris Masters 2021

22-year-old Denis Shapovalov has had a roller-coaster 2021 season. While he reached a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time in Wimbledon, he is still waiting for his first ATP singles title this year. But before he could do that, the Canadian has announced unfortunate news for tennis fans in Paris. That is, he will not be competing at the Rolex Paris Masters 1000 event this year.

Last year, Paris Bercy had transpired behind closed doors, so no fans were allowed in the stadium. In 2019, Shapovalov had won many fans in France, reaching the final of Paris Masters. But unfortunately, it will be the second consecutive year where the Canadian won’t play in front of his Paris fans.

Presently, Shapovalov is competing at the St. Petersberg Open 2021. and has reached the second round. The second seed will next play German Jan-Lennard Struff in Russia.

Denis Shapovalov withdraws from Rolex Paris Masters 2021

Indeed, it is a surprise to many fans why Denis Shapovalov pulled out from Bercy. However, the reason for the withdrawal remains unknown. Nonetheless, it is a big blow for tennis fans hoping to see him live in action next week.

Most probably, Shapovalov would have withdrawn from Paris Masters because of post-season fatigue. According to ATPTour.com, he is currently competing in his 30th tournament of the year.

Nevertheless, the young Canadian is out, and American Mackenzie McDonald has replaced him in the main draw entry list. Besides, Australian John Millman is now next in line for direct entry in Bercy.
