During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, Ian Hislop couldn’t help but make a dig at former presenter Piers Morgan after their fierce feud.

The pair have never quite seen eye to eye, with the Have I Got News For You presenter referencing Piers’ dramatic exit from the morning show in March.

Speaking about his 35 years editing satirical magazine Private Eye, Ian was asked if he ever feels awkward coming across people he’s written about in person.

‘Do you think it does [get frosty]? Well, I had to check this morning that certain presenters were no longer here,’ he laughed.

Presenter Charlotte Hawkins was keen to move the conversation on, saying: ‘We’ll leave at that shall we?,’ as Ian quipped: ‘I hate to bring that up, very poor taste.’

Adil Ray joked: ‘What’s Ben Shephard ever done to you?!’

‘It was his time!’ Ian responded.

Ian, 61, and Piers’ feud has been blazing for years, largely due to coverage of Piers, 56, in Private Eye.

In fact, the former GMB star’s son Spencer, 28, admitted it’s been going on since he was in school.

‘Fun fact: this feud was happening while me and his son were in the same class at prep school,’ he said of the rivalry. ‘Semi awkward.’

Things between the pair have been tense from as far back as Piers’ one and only appearance on Have I Got News For You in 1995.

At one point in the show, things got so fierce that host Angus Deayton asked if they wanted to go outside and have a fight, with Ian later describing it as a ‘car crash’ and even Piers admitting he’s got ‘awful’ memories from the experience.

Piers left GMB earlier this year after facing major backlash for his comments about Meghan Markle following her and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

He was hit with more than 57,000 Ofcom complaints but was later cleared following an investigation by the regulator.

Following his comments, Piers quit the ITV show. After months of teasing his TV return, he’s now set to come back to screens in a new show for talkTV.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
