Is Roblox shutting down?

Roblox is said to have gone down at around 4am IST on October 29, 2021, and, at the time of writing, there is no official word as to when services will be back to normal.

The Roblox investigation team is said to be aware of the situation which is affecting millions of players around the world.

A message from the Roblox Status account said: “Looks like #Roblox is currently experiencing issues!

“We’ll update you if we receive any further information. Services impacted: Games & Account Information.”

The massive outage has seen the platform’s global count shrink by 1million players – with engineers so far unable to identify the issue.

Data published by outage tracker Downdetector shows that problems first occurred around midnight UK time, with a further spike of reported problems at around 8am.

If the game were to be shut down temporarily then it would be not be the first time.

In 2021 alone, Roblox shut down or experienced issues on nine different occasions.

Where did the rumour come from?

The latest rumours have emerged from multiple Twitter accounts online.

Some have even posted pictures of an alleged ‘deleted tweet’ from the game’s official account that says it will be ‘shutting down forever.’

Many others, however, have taken to the social media platform to speculate why the game went offline in the first place.

Fingers pointed to a free burrito coupon being released in Roblox.

The Burrito was released in a virtual restaurant within the game’s platform.

The promo is running until October 31, 2021 and rewards players who stop by at a designated time each day.

But directing all US-based players to get to the digital store in the same window of time may have broken Roblox, they suggest.

“There is no way 30,000 people have visited the cashier in four minutes you need to fix this they’re only giving five dollar codes,” said one Twitter user.

Another shared an error code they received telling them they couldn’t join Chipotle’s experience.

“You broke Roblox” lamented another Twitter user, tagging the chain.
