Kyle Busch Bidding to Overtake NASCAR Legend After Equalling David Pearson This Season

Kyle Busch is a person who splits opinions. You either hate him or you love him. But whichever side of the fence you’re on, he has undoubtedly established himself in the record books.

Last year, with his win in Texas, Busch had won a race in the last 16 consecutive seasons, elevating him to third place in that list. He was then tied with Rickie Rudd, Justin Wallace, and Jimmie Johnson, only two seasons shy from equalling the all-time record of 18 seasons.

In May 2021, Busch won at Kansas and moved second in that list, now tied only with David Pearson.

Heading into Martinsville this weekend, Busch knows that winning one more race next year would take him to the top of the list, right up there with ‘The King’, Richard Petty.

Speaking to Beyond The Flag, the Joe Gibbs driver acknowledged this record, but he also emphasized that he just wants to do well in what he does, racing to win races.

“I mean, it was definitely meaningful and a huge accomplishment,” the 36-year-old said.

“Hopefully, we can continue that tradition and make sure that we get to 18, get to 19, and so on.”

Busch missed out on advancing to the last 4 after doing so in five consecutive seasons before, and entering the Xfinity 500 just one point above the Championship 4 cutline, the veteran will look to make it to Phoenix.

Kyle Busch gets validation from the President

On a recent appearance at I Am An Athlete- NASCAR Podcast, the league President Steve Phelps was asked to rank the five best players from his time at NFL.

Subsequently, he was then asked to match the five NFL players with five NASCAR drivers. And one name came to many people’s surprise; Kyle Busch, “one of the best drivers of all time”.

This was surprising because earlier this season Kyle Busch was dealt a hefty fine because of his behavior, which only added to his list filled with such instances.

But regardless of his sometimes questionable behavior, Kyle Busch has indeed cemented himself as one of the best drivers in NASCAR’s history and the numbers support that.

And although Busch may have many years ahead of him to claim more records, his focus will undoubtedly be on getting a good result in Martinsville this Sunday.
