WNBA Star Explains What Giannis Antetokounmpo Needs to Do to Take His Game to the Next Level

Known for his aggressive style of play, Giannis Antetokounmpo is already being hailed as one of the best players in the NBA. The Milwaukee Bucks star won the NBA championships last season, his franchise’s first NBA championship since 1971. He also won the 2021 NBA Finals MVP for his awe-inspiring performances against the Western Conference champions, Phoenix Suns.

Giannis has most often played as a forward for the Bucks, having experimented at power forward, point guard, small forward, and even shooting guard. However, he has played in all five positions, displaying remarkable versatility as the most important asset for the Bucks.

An unfamiliar position that he occupied against the Minnesota Timberwolves was as the Bucks’ center. WNBA player Chinenye Ogwumike decoded Giannis’ performances against the Timberwolves and pointed out room for improvement on ‘NBA Today’, a show on ‘ESPN’.

Chinenye Ogwumike said, “This is the area of growth for Giannis. We know what he can do in the half-court and also in full court. But now the next level of his game is being able to distribute and make his team better. And they have the comfort level, right Perk? Now that they won a championship, they feel good. Those shots are so much easier to make.”

Former NBA star Kendrick Perkins agreed with Ogwumike’s analysis. Perkins described Giannis as the “most dominant player in the NBA“. Alongside analyzing his game, Ogwumike and Perkins reserved high praise for the two-time NBA ‘Most Valuable Player’ awardee.

Giannis’ MVP worthy performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves

After three away games, the Milwaukee Bucks came home back to the Fiserv Forum arena. They failed to grind out a win against the Minnesota Timberwolves, as the visiting team won with a narrow 113-108 victory. The defending NBA champions sorely missed a few key players in their second home defeat of the new season.

However, Bucks’ talisman, Giannis Antetokounmpo, displayed his MVP qualities with a commanding performance. Giannis recorded 40 points and 16 rebounds, with Khris Middleton scoring 16 points and Grayson Allen adding 13 points.

Despite Giannis’ 40 point-haul, the Bucks failed to prevail as they missed key players in Brook Lopez, Jrue Holiday, and Donte DiVincenzo because of injuries. The Bucks hope to return to winning ways with their next game against the San Antonio Spurs.
