“Going to Be a Heck of a Race” – Ryan Blaney on His Championship 4 Chances
We are steadily building up to the climax of the 2021 Cup Series title race. Kyle Larson has already booked his seat in the finale, and is awaiting his rivals. Among the hopefuls, is Team Penske driver, Ryan Blaney. The #12 driver has racked up three wins this year, including two on the trot.
Recently, he spoke to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about his championship chances. He said, “It’s going to be a heck of a race. We’ve got five guys essentially going for one spot. With the #11 and #9 kind of being up there in the points. You know they are not going to have trouble. Definitely, all the people you’ve listed thus far, are really good at Martinsville in the past. Any one of us could win that race.”
Ryan Blaney confessed that it may not take a win to qualify. However, he did acknowledge that it would be a good morale booster ahead of the finale.
What else did Ryan Blaney say?
According to him, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr, and he are close together in the points. The trick is to set themselves up for a decent finish in the Martinsville race. Stage wins will be crucial, and eventually, they need to build up to winning the race itself. This is because the stage wins will offer valuable points for them.

While a win may not be a deciding factor, it would be nice if one of them won the race. However, the #12 driver will be hugely aware that this is easier said than done. With the Hendrick Motorsports duo of Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott locking out the front row, things will be difficult. On the bright side, it is a long race and anything can happen during the two stages and in the final sprint to the finish.
