UNFORTUNATE! Dominic Thiem Leaves Top 10 ATP Rankings for the First Time in 5 Years

The former US Open champion, Dominic Thiem, suffered from a major wrist injury in June 2021. Since then, the Austrian has been unable to compete on the ATP tour. Just recently, Thiem was dropped from the top 10 rankings of ATP. He presently sits at 11th position in the ATP rankings.

With Jannik Sinner’s victory in the quarter-finals of the Vienna Open, he acquired the 9th position, followed by Hubert Hurkacz in the tenth. The Austrian hasn’t participated in any tournaments since the Mallorca Open in June. However, he has announced some optimistic news regarding his comeback.

Dominic Thiem falls from top 10 rankings

The former US Open champion, Dominic Thiem has slipped to the 11th position in the ATP rankings. With 3315 points, the Austrian is at the 11th position. The main reason for this fall was Jannik Sinner‘s victory against Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals of the Vienna Open. Before the match, Sinner was in the 11th position with 3260 points, just behind Hubert Hurkacz.

However, with the win over Ruud, he has grabbed some crucial points for himself as he cruises to the 9th position with 3395 points. Sinner will now face Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals of the competition.

As Thiem hasn’t played any tournaments since June, he couldn’t collect any points for himself. This is the first time he has slipped from the top 10 ATP rankings since 2016. However, the former World No. 3 has recently announced some development on his recovery as he hopes to return for the 2022 ATP tour.
